This guest post comes courtesy of Tony Baer’s OnStrategies blog. Tony is senior analyst at Ovum. With Strata, IBM IOD, and Teradata Partners conferences all occurring this week, it’s not surprising that this is a big week for Hadoop-related announcements. The common thread of announcements is essentially, “We know that Hadoop is not known for performance, but we’re getting better… Read more →

AMD to show off Windows 8 tablet PCs using its Hondo chip at CES 2013

As long as it’s taken Intel to properly enter the tablet game, it’s taking AMD even longer to join the fray. While Intel’s “Clover Trail” Atom is starting to show up in new Windows 8 tablets, AMD’s Z-60 “Hondo” only has one official design win to date — the forthcoming Fujitsu Stylistic Q572.   But the chip company isn’t giving up, and… Read more →

Huawei: Shaken and stirred

By “this,” of course, I’m referring to all of the evil villains’ accoutrements: secret volcano lairs, underwater hideaways, orbital rockets, crack teams of nuclear-thieving bandits. And that’s before you even factor in the payroll, superannuation, and death benefits for all of those minions; heck, can you imagine the worker’s compensation premiums? These secret lairs don’t come cheap, Mr Bond; that’s… Read more →
